The bacta Bikers

The bacta Bikers were formed in 1991 by Dave Orton, and are a group of keen motorcyclists who all work for companies within our leisure industry. Dave retired from the Bikers in 2016 aged 74.

Coming together under the bacta banner, the bikers arrange challenging tours every year or two with the intention of raising money for nominated charities.

The charities and good causes they have supported over the years have included Macmillan Nurses; Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital Children's Cancer Research Centre; BIBIC , RNID and Rays of Sunshine.

Since the early 1990's they have embarked on 13 tours and raised over 180,000. Challenges have included John O'Groats to Lands End, which they completed on 3 occasions (the last time in one day) and other memorable trips have been Monte Carlo Or Bust and To Hell and Back (Hell is a little town in northern Norway). One journey in 2006 was a Round Scotland event and the bikers are pictured at the Eilean Donan Castle near Kyle of Lochalsh. The latest tour covered over 3,500 miles and incorporated Germany, Austria and the Netherlands raising 16,000 for the Rays of Sunshine.

The tours are designed to be both challenging and enjoyable for those taking part and all costs (travel, accommodation etc) are fully covered by the individuals. This means that all sponsorship and monies pledged go direct to the chosen charity or good causes.
